STUDENT EXPERIENCES FOR ALL YEAR LEVELS

School excursions.

Melbourne is not only the sporting capital of Australia but arguably, the world. Experience this city up close and gain an understanding of how it has become so sports obsessed.

The sporting capital.

The fabric of Melbourne is made up of many threads - Indigenous beginnings, arts and multicultural influences, gardens and cafe life, and, of course, sport. And upon British settlement in 1835, sport became the unifying thread of modern Melbourne life.

This tour has been carefully curated in conjunction with primary school educators and provides the opportunity for students to be outside in the fresh air not only learning about Melbourne’s sporting history and its influence on life in this city but also experiencing it by walking through our incredible, world class sporting precinct.

And we throw in a number of activities and quizzes that will get the students’ academic, sporting and competitive juices flowing and make this tour a memorable one for your group.

As Melbourne is also the sports business capital of Australia, home to most of the national sporting administration bodies, we also hope to spark an interest in the opportunity for a career in sports in the minds of our student guests.

This Sporting City

  • Revel in this amazing city’s sporting culture. No other city in the world can match the incredible list of world class events or amazing sporting infrastructure. No other city’s people follow sports in the way that Melburnians do.

Our Indigenous Links

  • Melbourne existed long before British settlers arrived. Narrm, on the banks of the Birrarung, was home to the Wurrendjeri people for thousands of years, where they played a local game called Marn Grook. And post British settlement our First Nations people would continue to have significant impacts on our national sporting fabric.

Heroes & Founders

  • Learn about the women and men who influenced the Melbourne, Australian and global sporting landscapes, and how and why we came to host Olympics and Commonwealth games, invent Australian Rules football, build the largest stadium in the southern hemisphere and develop the world’s best sporting precint.
